Mercy

The church is sending two teams to Mississippi/Louisiana to help with hurricane relief efforts. I am so touched and inspired by their courage and willingness. They have dropped work and paid for flights and they're going. Several girls from my small group are going with this week's team and several girls from the vocal team are going with next week's team. Both ladies are on the team that is leading worship on Sunday and there is a responsive reading planned. It is taken from Psalm 107 and 108 using some from the NIV translation and actually a few lines from the Message paraphrase. The church responds multiple times with phrases like, "Give thanks to the Lord, He is good, His love endures forever. Thank you God for your love." But the line that Lisa will lead us in is "all of you set free by God, tell the world." and His love never runs out. It was just so encouraging to hear her say those words and then hear that night of her decision to go. I think that worship does this. Responding to God in worship and interrupting our preoccupation with ourselves means that it'll transform us. It will make us go and not just say, "tell the world" but actually tell the world using words if necessary. Okay so now that I've taken bits of quotes from everyone, I'll end it there.
